THe Via 180 is a rock solid product - it works extremely well and has a big easy to read screen. In today's traffic its an absolute essential even for a long term city resident.
Favorite features: Spoken Directions including street names
It is brilliant for getting you to your destination hassle free. I like the clarity of the voices and the bell that signals when I'm being a bit heavy footed.

Now that I finally got around to buying a GPS I don't know how I survived without one. This is brilliant I love it, easy to work and opperate, love the phone connection and red light bips and the 3D aspect. Peter.

Using the Via 180 brought us directly to our hotels when travelling throughout France, what a life-saver when locating our last stop in Paris with its 5+ intersections and one-way roads. In Australia it quickly resets the journey when I decide to take an alternative route with which I am more familiar. It has given me the advantage of being more adventurous as I can more comfortably stray from major paths.

I have had this unit for approx 15 month & when I first used it all was fine but every time I do an update recommended by Tom tom I then lose what the correct speed limit is at that location causing me no end of frustration as that why i bought the item to know what the correct speed is especially in sydney & country travelling I moved away from a competitor to be with Tom Tom but unless I can get this bug rectified it's bye bye to another customer

Great unit. I was told the unit included compass bearing on the display as its quite essential in my area of work. Was disappointed to find its not in the unit. One of the key items i require apart from gettin directions quickly and easily! Perhaps somthing to be added to the next software update!!

Tom Tom is extremely useful when in unchartered territory. Love the voice changing feature. Another fabulous feature is the voice control which allows me to call my stored phone contacts by speaking to my GPS.

I found the unit to be superior to my Navman which I bought 6-8 months prior, the stenghts are good screen with great touch screen, excellent visuals particularly in 3D, good clear instructions with slim design make it easy to use, good system to attach to windscreen and easy common sense instructions. Weakness are that the charger lead is too long and the cigarette/USB combination just fits in my car, the offset charger connection is sometimes a pain to line up to charge when travelling. Also sometimes well established suburbs are missed like Toombul in Qld and unless you know the suburb next door you have an issue.

Not that impressed
Date:2 October 2011
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance
Chose the TomTom over other devices on the market due to it's user interface, which I still think is much better than other devices. When it works, it's a great thing and the advanced lane guidance is a good thing to have. I'd previously used an older GPS of another brand and it was too easy to go too far left when it said 'keep left'. The TomTom has got that sorted. The Bad - Keeps killing the car cigarette lighter attachment and there's no fuse to replace. Pulled one apart and it's all electronic, so a completely non-servicable item... NOT GOOD ! I'm yet to take this up with warranty, it just shouldn't happen. 1A fuse in the CB charger never blows. The other Bad, looked at taking it to Europe with me on a trip (bought in Australia) but apparently there's no way of getting new maps on it ! You can purchase map upgrades for your existing map, but no swap over. This device has been out for quite a while now and TomTom still haven't sorted out how to get the maps to it. Number 1 complaint from people on forums and what have you as well. Pretty disappointing, went with TomTom as they're a known name and have been let down.

Lifesaver
Date:15 September 2011
Favorite features: Ease of Use
My tomtom has been a lifesaver. However, in rural areas of NSW I have had issues where it does not recognise that the highway which goes through the rural city also has a street name. There are also roads or house numbers which supposedly don't exist which have been in existence for many years. Where possible, I have updated it so that in future when I go back to that area, the street is in existence. The only other problem I have is if I am in Sydney, the car on the screen starts spinning and I have to guess my way around as it tells me I am in a completely different street.

Great - but computer software needs to be sorted
Date:15 September 2011
The TomTom itself works well. It was very annoying having to load the TomTom software onto our oldest computer that I never normally use just because it would not work with Windows 7 home on my UK purchased Acer. This needs to be resolved. Please let me know when you have done so!

What a great Navigator, easy to use and mount, very accurate direct routes, dosn't make mistakes. Features such as Radar detection, Traffic update etc are excellent as well as the auto day/night function. The lane control feature is the best and makes finding your way around a unfamiliar area very easy. If you want a good navigator, always buy a Tom Tom...................

We Would have been lost without our Tom Tom I Downloaded the map for Uk & Ireland from Australia before we traveled. Rented a car in Uk drove through Scotland & Ireland so easy with Tom Tom I found it fantastic. It was so helpful we entered where we wanted to go and it would tell us how many miles & what time we would arrive at our destination

We went on holidays from Central Coast NSW to Great Ocean Rd VIC, Cora (we call her that because she mispronounced Cowra NSW the very first trip we went on) took us on all the B & C roads, no traffic at all, saw heaps of small country towns that you would normally miss, driving was a breeze, such a pleasant way to go, would do it again. We do laugh at the funny way she says things, it makes the trip go faster. We plan to go overseas in a couple of years and will take Cora with us.

When I went to the USA last year I purchased a Tom Tom rather than hiring one, it was the best thing I ever did.
I left it with my friends in the US.
When I got back home to Australia I decided to get one, I chose the Via 180 for the size, ease of use and the blue tooth connectivity with my phone.
The only downside is that there is only 1 computerised voice ( female ) and at the moment you can't add others, but it is mac compatible
