I am very happy with this it works great. There was 1 day when it did not work every thing went wrong but I was told it had somethong to do with the weather or something like that. But I think it was about 2 or 4 days later and every thing was working great and still is.

Even a technophobe can use it
Date:29 October 2012
Favorite features: Ease of Use
Although I have resisted the use of "new" technology for many years, always insisting that I was perfectly capable of reading a map, I decided to purchase my TomTom Start 25 because my husband and I were doing a trip from London to Scotland and back via the Lake District and I felt it would be easier to find the hotels that way. Even for a technophobe like me it was pretty easy to set up and operate. My only operational bleat is that I had to keep it on my lap to navigate because our dashboard slopes and even using a "beanbag" mount didn't stop it slipping off but that did mean it was easier to use being more like an interactive map. I also found it a bit confusing when I actually missed the turning I needed to one hotel and couldn't work out how to get back to my destination - but I think that may be down to me rather than a fault with the product! I'd also like more advanced notice of what lane I needed when coming to a motorway junction - a few hundred yards isn't enough, especially in heavy traffic. Updates have been easy to download and I have used it once myself, attached to the windscreen this time, when I was having to go somewhere locally I was unfamiliar with and it was fine. I am sure we will get plenty of use our of it in the years to come.

I am on my 3rd Model Tom Tom (1XL / VIA20 / Start 25 ). I can honestly say, that I have been highly satisfied. Just ONE fault.....I have downloaded 'speed cameras' on each. For some unknown reason, I have been unable to download 'Live Traffic', roadworks, delays etc. on the latest unit ("not compatible!!!! Looking forward, hopefully to the day, if and when this is possible,

Start 25 - fantastic!
Date:31 August 2012
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance, Ease of Use, spoken street names
We bought the Start 25 here in the UK two days before flying to Portugal for a holiday. Picked up the hire car, bunged the Tom Tom onto the front screen and picked up a signal immediately. I can honestly say that having been to Portugal several times without a SatNav the Tom Tom Start 25 was fantastic and completely removed several layers of stress from our journeys. In fact we got out and about far more on this holiday than we have ever done in the past. We shall be taking the Start 25 to Australia with us in November, love it to bits!

Had an old XL so thought i would upgrade.I am disapointed with the Start 25 as you can not use Tomtom home so you can not get new voices/poi's/plan a route or quickfix updates. but it does have spoken street names which is nice. It will get you there but still disapointed all the same.

Loved it at first....but now do not trust!
Date:22 May 2012
I loved this Sat Nav at first, it is clear, love the way it looks and the way you can see the road you are on and where you are going next. Clear instructions in good time and for 3 months it got me to where I needed to be and I raved about my trusty Sat nav.
Now suddenly it can never find a GPS signal, at first this was on and off, but now it doesn't seem to work at all. I drove (lost) for an hour the other day in Liverpool all the while my Satnav just said it could not access a GPS signal. I reset it several times with no joy.
I have read other reviews on this product, and I am disapointed to realise that this is a feature of the product I may have to accept! I am now scared to use it for fear of it letting me down again.

Good for Europe - but only Europe
Date:15 February 2012
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance, spoken street names
I travel widely and hence need a satnav that I can use in North America and Australasia as well as Europe. The appropriate extra maps are, of course, widely advertised on TomTom's website so I was able to purchase them as add ons for the previous TomTom I owned. As you can imagine that I was more than a little surprised when I tried to do the same with this model, only to discover that one just can't buy additional maps for it. This must be a commercial decision rather than a technical one by TomTom, so be very aware that this model is Europe only, both when you buy it and for ever more. This feature (definitely not a benefit# is not at all apparent when one purchases the device. A most peculiar piece of product bundling #or is that bungling) that renders the satnav useless to me and any other long haul traveller. It also means I haven't bought any extra maps - get a grip TomTom!

product does not have the promised quality. Showing unauthorized roads, where driving is not allowed. Home address and direct number is not correct. The nearest road show four times longer than it actually is (araund all city). Many street navigator can not be found. very inaccurate. I believe that it is a poor quality product. I recommend their friends do not buy That product

I am quite impressed with my first sat-nav but very disapointed that there was no instruction book.Fortunately I have a computer and printer and so I printed off the instructions (78 pages). If you purchase any appliance these days i.e washing machine,tv,dvd recorder etc etc they all come with instructions so I am not sure why your sat-nav does not and I would welcome your comments on this.

After the first few months!

We bought the TomTom 25 for our travels from the north of England to the south of France via wedding in Valenciennes. It was the bit in the north of France that we weren't familiar with. I went online and got everything up to date. I was a little confused as it wasn't absolutely clear that I had to use the alternative MyTomTom interface on the PC to update. We used the TomTom round Southampton helping out with grandchildren and it was faultless though knowing the right end of a street is important. Travel to Valenciennes was interesting as TomTom lost his way a bit and for while we were driving on an established road but TomTom has us in a field 50m to the right! Later TomTom had not been upgraded on a massive new Autoroute interchange though the road names were obvious. Whilst in France we updated with another massive new map and on the return that junction had not problems. You have to tune into TomTom's way of describing a route and you have to keep your wits about you. I collected my sister from Avignon and TomTom directed me down some very rural but speedy roads that I wouldn't have thought of but it did cross a ford which was dry. the same ford wrote off a BMW in the winter. All in all a good purchase.

As we were planning to drive to the town of Le Teilleul in Normandy France approx 500 miles, I purchased a Tom Tom Start 25. I put in my home address and the address in France, with a stop over at Maidstone Kent, then through the tunnel to Calais. I drove to my destination via Rouen and the TomTom 25 was spot on all the way, and when we returned I just pressed home and it guided us back without hitch.

I bought this from the the Ideal world programme. I do not think there is enough information on how to use this system. I am using the product and learning through my own mistakes. I put in a post code it took me there and brought me back in a different direction.

Good; but---
Date:25 August 2011
Favorite features: IQ Routes™ Technology, Advanced Lane Guidance, Ease of Use
It makes travel from point to point much easier and more stress free, and I would recommend it for this reason, particularly to those regularly involved in finding one off addresses.
An Ordnance survey map is much better for sightseeing on holidays.
The warning of speed cameras is good and useful but it does not deal well with average speed cameras which provoke continued and annoying warnings.
I have been directed onto urban roads closed by fixed bollards, and roads with artificial width restrictions which make them virtually unusable.
I have also been directed onto narrow country roads which are unsuitable for any serious volume of traffic. Judging by the number of people driving like lunatics, satellite navigation devices might be creating a volume of traffic on minor roads for which they are unsuitable; this will become an increasing problem as uptake of sat-nav increases. I would like an option to limit route finding to motorways and classified roads.
The voices could be more appealing and clearer; my Tom Tom pronounces 90 as 19, which is a bit confusing.

Very Good ... But

This is the first of the new generation of TomTom's that I have tried, after many years on an old go model (950 I think). Very impressive so far. I'm a bit disappointed that the SD card function has not been activated yet, and with hind sight, I think I should have opted for a model with live services available, but overall, it performs to the standard you would expect from TomTom. I'm sure that once the support and services package has been fully developed, it will be an even more attractive choice.
