issues with battery and car adapter
Date:July 31, 2012
Favorite features: Ease of Use
this is my first navigation system, so i cannot say much about its features. it was easy to get used to and to start depending on it! however, within one year i am having two technical issues. 1) the device stopped working on battery, i.e. when it was pulled off the car adapter or off the computer, it would turn black and not turn on any more. this issue has been reported by other users too. after a short back-and-forth with tomtom customer service, i got a return authorization and am waiting for a replacement device. i will be left with the cost of returning the broken device. 2) the car adapter which also contains the traffic receiver lost its front contact and fuse, rendering it useless. i was fortunate to find the pieces in my backpack and was able to put it back together. i found other reviews reporting the same issue where people had to request a replacement part.

Great for alternative routes
Date:April 6, 2012
Favorite features: Ease of Use
Purchased over a year ago, so lots of time with it. Pros, alternative routes when going to work, ease of use, sleek look & style, lifetime maps and traffic updates. Cons: voice recognition is very poor in that when contacts are downloaded from my smart phone it is next to impossible to access contacts beyond first screen and on top of that voice recognition rarely gets the right contact - very frustrating. I have given up on using this feature even for finding streets. Unit installed via a vent mount that is angled to the direction of my mouth and approximately 20 inches away, however, Blue Tooth connection is average - people say I sound very distant and often unclear - switched back to blue tooth headseat and deactivated blue tooth settings - thought it was to good to be true. The unit has taken me on poor routes right into dead ends where construction is underway and alternative routes are longer than what was originally planned. Points of interest seems to work well when in a specific geographic area but don't try to find a point of interest that is outside of the area you are working from. Wish unit retained a history of routes taken and their mileage as this would be helpful for managing mileage for work purposes - Garmin I understand has that feature on certain models.

Very good gps
Date:December 14, 2011
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance, Ease of Use, Spoken Directions including street names
I really like just about everything regarding this model. The only reason I don't give it five stars is it has routed me off the freeway and back on it for some reason and there was no traffic. The only other complaint I have is I can't see the screen because of glare when the sun hits in certain directions. Overall it's a great gps.

I received my Tom Tom a few weeks ago but didn't go anywhere to try it out until last week. I drove from WV to MO an 857 mile trip one way and I would not have done that if I didn't have my Tom Tom. Tom Tom did very well fixing my mess ups. Tom Tom only got confused twice, the one a detour, I kept going in circles and the other, Tom Tom couldn't find my hotel. But, the accuracy and helping me the way it did makes Tom Tom absolutely the way to drive long distances. Returning from MO Tom Tom kept me on the right path, I love it's features and I am very happy with how well it works.

Somewhat disapointed with overall features
Date:June 14, 2011
I have been using Tomtom devices for several years now and I have been somewhat happy with the graphic interface and trip planning features. But on the GO2405TM there has been a lot of disappointment. It is my understanding this device has been released prematurely as the set of features that complement this device still remain nonexistent. I am talking about all the features common to other models using Tomtom Home. So far the only features advertised and made available only in the last 2 to 3 months are Lifetime map updates and POI backups. Beyond that, there is still no backup capability, camera updates, Mapshare and so on. Lack of a SD or external memory interface is a major drawback, as my former GO2405TM was rendered inoperative after a map updates. It did corrupt the entire system and I had to RMA the unit for replacement. A simple SD card interface with proper backup software would have prevented this issue right off the start not to mention the fact that a full map update takes at least 2 hours, meaning that you can't use it once the update is taking place. Once I had to wait over 8 hours to have it back on line. Updates seems to be available only if the computer has internet access. If a computer doesn't have internet access, I believe backups could not be done locally as it is the case with Tomtom Home. Feature wise, there has been some improvement with spoken direction ahead of a turn or when arriving at destination. It tells you ahead of time if you must turn left or right or if your destination is on the left or the right. Beyond that, no real improvements. Voice recognition never understands me and I have stopped using it has it is very frustrating. Menus are still buggy and not generally obvious to scroll through. Capacitive screen is not reliable as it is easy to mistype things. I missed the old resistive screen, a bit more work for the finger but a more robust and accurate key acquisition. If voice recognition was working properly, I would have liked to be able to have the ability to have POI commands and input as well and not having to press the screen to start the voice recognition. Some competitors have that capabilty and it would be nice to have this one has well. Back with my old GO920, I could use my remote more efficiently than what the voice recognition is able on the GO2405. Traffic is a nice feature that must be taken with a grain of salt as I always find information dubious and not always accurate. Some of my friends have asked me which GPS I would recommend they buy, and knowing all the issues with updates reliability and availability and tech-support inability to provide relevant and accurate data, I could not tell them to get a Tomtom device. I am able to cope and understand the issues with these units but I doubt my friend would and I would feel awful if they were going to experience issues on their own because of my opinion. Another annoying thing is the Legal notice every time the GPS is turned on. In my opinion, it is going to take a lot of effort and resources for Tomtom to pull things back together if they want to remain on the market.

Had a cheaper Magellan unit & this one is far superior. The traffic feature really works...re-routed me around a huge traffic jam 1 day without any effort on my part. :) Haven't found a 'reverse' feature where I could just return to original destination but this would be good to have.

The 2405 is a very nice tomtom, the only few complaints that I have are the voice activation has trouble understanding commands, and that there is not alot of choices on icons, car symbols, voices, etc like are seen on other tomtoms

My Tom Tom 2405 is great except the blue tooth feature is a drag. When talking in blue tooth mode calls are dropped three or four times in a row every time I use it,in addition the call freezes while in use.

Got mine with a 2 year upgrade promise. But started getting notified to update after the first year. I will not upgrade for that much money, waiting for someone to steal it and then start looking for a new one. I drive for a living and paid a lot up front for this thing.

Unable to set speed on this model, always set at set speed limit. If vehicle speed governed arrival time can be way off. Other than that works great.
