So far so good
Date:February 10, 2013
Favorite features: IQ Routes™ Technology, Advanced Lane Guidance, Ease of Use
I have owned several TomTom's and I had some problems with the last one which was a Go 730. It did a nice job of getting where I wanted to go and the routes were generally good but the operating system was a bit of a problem. It would just go dark in the middle of a trip and I would have to reset the system to continue. A real problem if you are in a city. I bought a Garmin nuvi 2595 LMT and was happy with the operation of the unit. It has many nice features but the routing left a lot to be desired. So I went back to a TomTom Go 2535 TM and so far (about 3 months) I am very happy with the unit. I am once again confident in the routing and so far the system has operated with no problems at all. I would recommend it to anyone. My only issue is that I cannot as of this review access new POI's on the web site. I can create my own but because I cannot back up my device I may lose them when I update. Not sure of that fact yet.

Been traveling all year and sending in my 2nd unit
Date:December 14, 2012
Favorite features: spoken street names
First, I want to thank the company for actually standing behind their warranty...so far...on my second unit now...here are my coms with the company:
While stationed in Germany in/around 2007-2008 we bought a Tom-Tom GO 920. This device worked GREAT and the computer hook up and POI usage was very easy and user friendly.
We moved back to the US in 2009 and continued to use the 920, and I bought map updates to keep it current…that went well also. As the device grew older, the internal battery got shorter on life and it seemed newer models were better and with new processing speeds should be better so I started a search for a newer model. With the good experience from the 920 I only looked at your models and consulted Consumer Reports and the Amazon Customer Ratings.
In preparation for my retirement from the Army and our impending vacation traveling I asked for and received for Christmas 2011 another Tom-Tom device choosing the GO 2535 TM purchased from Amazon.
I logged on my original Tom-Tom Account and it seemed problems started right away as Tom-Tom Home did not recognize (still does not) the new device connected to my computer.
After some reading, I downloaded the My Tom-Tom which finally did connect with the GPS and was able to activate my lifetime map update service, but was unable to add/update any POI. For POI info, it continues to refer me to Tom-Tom Home which will NOT recognize my device… 
I have continued to get my map updates with the notifications.
We just came off of our 7500 mile driving vacation across America and I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PRODUCT!
In approximately Feb of 2012 (remember this was just bought at Christmas) the internal battery stopped working. This was a small inconvenience as I rarely (but use to with the old 920) take it out of the car and use it on walking….so no huge problem….yet.
This device has never been as user-friendly on any of its updates, connections, or navigation as your older 920!
What is up with the POI update system for this Model?! It used to be so great and easy!
Here are some of the other problems:
When you ask it for the nearest fuel station, it gives you notice that the info is more than a week old and freezes! So unless you want to reboot it, we do not dare select fuel stations.
In extreme city traffic with quick multiple direction changes, it sits there and continues to show you a picture of which lane you should be in…..this led to multiple exit misses and it is extremely slow on calculating a new route.
Lifetime Traffic……..this is garbage on this device….I get a continual “spin”, which I can accept in some rural areas, but when in/near metro areas it should be giving me info. When it does stop spinning and gives info, it usually shows a traffic jam where traffic is flowing fine!...or worse run into construction or stopped traffic which it should know about.
This device has taken us on some of the craziest roads. In areas that I am familiar with, I know not to trust “HER”(We chose the Susan voice, so that is her name), but it is very frustrating in areas that we traveled in and did not know the roads.
This processor is so slow that I can sometimes reach for a map (I had to have them handy with this GPS) and figure a better route than it/she could.
This device was way too heavy for the suction-cup-to windshield mounting so we bought the sandbag dash mount which has worked well. But before that, the device would fall off of the windshield mount and actually dented some of my dash inlay coverings….more ….but shame on me.
I feel that I am an above average GPS user and am familiar with the GPS system as I have been using devices in our military aircraft for many years. I am so “geeky” that I will hardly go anywhere without programming and I constantly use it as my speedometer. That too has begun to lag. I hope for your company’s sake that this is just “a bad unit”, but I think that I will be trying another company due to quality and unfriendliness in this particular piece of equipment.
They sent a new unit in July of 2012 very quickly, but by Aug/Sep, many of the old problems were reacuring...especially the battery:
You sent me a replacement unit...thank you...but within 2 months the replacement unit started doing many of the things that the original unit did...not good. Worst thing is that the battery will not charge, so any time you interupt power the unit has to be soft booted. The power light always remains amber, even when it is up and operating. We went on another long trip to Maine in October and the rental car did not have a constant-power-plug, like my car, so every time the car was shut down...gas, shopping, sightseeing,etc....the unit would have to be restarted....even if you shut down the unit prior, it needs a soft boot to start operating marginally. This model of Tom Tom must be garbage as I see many similar posts. My original Tom Tom is still an excellent gaget, and that is why I did not stray off to Garmin or another. Another problem is the update when you connect it online...many times it will take forever and then will show complete, but the site will still show i need to update my devise. Anything we can do on this replacement unie? Thanks for your time....please go back to your system and devices of 5yrs ago..;)

Sounds great on paper...
Date:June 19, 2012
Pros:
1. Glass touchscreen - this is awesome! It allows you to tap the display instead of mash the display.
2. Voice recognition - works pretty well with addresses, making travel easier
3. Magnetic dock - this is also awesome! I take my unit out of the window when I turn off my car. This is easy off and on the mount.
4. Lifetime maps. Obviously.
5. Traffic - one caveat though... the traffic receiver only picks up traffic information in urban areas. Most interstate traffic will not have traffic info.
Cons:
1. Battery. This is huge. I just sent my 2nd unit back to Tomtom. In both units, the battery simply did not charge. This means you can only use the device when it is connected to your car. Also, since the device is completely of, not just in idle mode, it has to do a cold boot every time you turn it on. This takes at least 30 seconds + time to find a signal. Very inconvenient. Because of this con, I would not recommend this unit to a friend.
2. Processor. Very laggy. Often I will be unsure if I successfully tapped a button because nothing will happen for several seconds after I tap the screen. This isn't a huge deal though.
Overall:
Really great idea from Tomtom, but with the buggy software and slow processing (not to mention the faulty batteries), one can't help but feel this product was rush out the door before all the kinks were ironed out.

Pretty Good
Date:April 6, 2012
Favorite features: IQ Routes™ Technology, bluetooth
Pros -
1. A GPS is only as good as accuracy of its routes. Tomtom beats other brands I have used in this respect. iQ Routes are amazing.
2. GPS fix is pretty quick - even inside my home.
3. Bluetooth sound quality is very good - clear on both sides. Better than a dedicated bluetooth I own
No real cons but here is a Wish List -
1. Trip planning feature for multiple destinations - really missed
2. Option to switch off after a delay when ignition is switched off
3. Voice recognization needs improvement
4. Categorize POI lists - especially restaurants for different types of food

My second TomTom and far better
Date:December 4, 2011
Favorite features: traffic updates
I received an XL330 as a tenure gift from my company. It worked fine, but I gave it to a friend after I got an iPhone GPS app. The app was lacking, so when my wife wanted to go to Florida, I was in the market for a new and bigger unit. I settled on the Go 2535TM because of the feature set. The lane guidance is superb, and the big wide 5" screen is very clear. I especially like the auto-shift to night vision when the sun sets. After vacation, my company called me back to work, and now I'm driving 30 miles 1-way into downtown Dallas - 20 miles is on I30. The traffic reroute is phenomenal - many times it has routed me off I30 into side streets to avoid jams. If you want to go from point A to point B, then you can't go wrong with this unit. If you want to explore, then get a printed map - GPS units are not very good for exploring unless you input specific destinations - then they really shine.

Rating of GO 2535TM
Date:September 9, 2011
Got it for my wife. She hates it. Instructions are sometimes too late (i.e. already past the exit). Sometimes in the middle of a trip it decides there is no longer a trip being routed, and you have to re-enter the destination. Drivng instructions are not as clear as with my previous devices. So, overall, except for the lifetime maps and traffic, we do not rate it very highly. Wife plans to go back to the 4-year old device from another company.

Best Choice I made
Date:September 15, 2011
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance, Ease of Use, Spoken Directions including street names
I am almost completely satisified with my TomTom GO2535TM. It has been accurate and the lane guidance is great. I bought it and out of the box went on a 1880 mile trip. NOT ONE problem. Got me everywhere I wanted without a hitch. The only thing I am waiting for is the availability of downloading additional voices. I would recommend this to anyone.

Disappointed with my new TomTom
Date:June 12, 2011
To: TomTom Marketing Staff:
Pending an upcoming, cross country drive through the U.S., I upgraded to a new TomTom GO 2535 TM. This replaced my long used TomTom One. However, the new unit leaves much to be desired in terms of connectivity to the computer upgrade program, among other things.
The generic URL, My TomTom, is not linked to my connected, TomTom GO 2535 for the sole purpose of updating my connected GPS. When I link to an update service, that's what I'd like to see. That's what I got with my (much older) version, TomTom One. Instead the new URL gives me choices for shopping and FAQs. I just want to connect on line and plan a trip.
When connecting my old TomTom to TomTom Home 2, I could see the installed maps being upgraded. I had a choice to buy new maps to assist me on overseas trips. I downloaded maps for Australia, New Zealand, all of Europe, and Mexico. No such map updates seem to be available outside the native installations on the new GPS. (I understand I'm supposed to receive four times a year upgrades to North America maps.) And I can now longer change the voice of my "announcer."
I also miss the tool bar compass reference. Instead, I am now looking at a GPS speedometer. I don't need a GPS speedometer - my car provides me with this information.
While in unfamiliar cities, or even huge Chinese department stores, I used my old TomTom One in walking mode. The compass feature led me in the proper direction to find the door from which I entered, or the direction to my hotel. A GPS coordinated compass is an invaluable tool.
I now have to seriously consider the question of dropping the use of an external GPS system; and instead rely solely on the GPS abilities of my cell phone. However, being a long time user of the TomTom GPS, I'd like to know what current plans are in store to return the "new" TomTom devices to the useability of the "old" versions. And when will the internet connection to my new TomTom have the abiliities of the older version? For example, I used to be able to enter trip data on my old TomTom directly from my computer. That's no longer available on the new version.
What's happening to TomTom?
Joe B.

I am a long time user of TomTom. 2535TM is my 4th TomTom product. The main reason for buying 2535 is because of voice command. ease of bracket to put and remove the unit. and the value of TM. First of all bad decision to release the product when all the ducks are not in a row. Also there is more button to push to do what i want to do: drive a destination. Lastly, voice command is confusing. Many times it does not work

BEST of several companies
Date:June 20, 2011
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance, Ease of Use, Spoken Directions including street names, easy to see screen, great choice of accessories
I have had a Garmin and a Magellan. The TomTom GO 2535 TM is far and away the best there is out there for the price paid. I bought a 540 XXL to replace a Garmin I had. That was so much better, I then bought the GO 2535 TM for my other car. I have not be any happier with any electronic item I have bought in the last several years. "If you are thinking about a GPS, forget all the stories you may have heard about the others, TOMTOM is the BEST way to go". My only complaint is having to wait for the additional voices to become available for the 2535. Customer Support is Professional, Polite, and Patient with any questions. Do yourself a favor and get the TOMTOM!!

Sorry I bought it
Date:May 18, 2011
I am having a terrible time finding the proper screens. The accompanying booklet was way too sketchy. I found nothing intuitive about this product. I wish it came with a tutorial DVD. I asked two people who are really good at figuring out how various electronic devices work, and they both found it difficult. If I ever learn where the various options are, I think it will be a useful tool.

I gave my Garmin to my daughter and bought this at Target with the idea that it was one that updated maps 4 times a year for free, but come to find out there is a high price to pay for maps. It just doesn't have the ease of use and information available on the Garmin I had. Very disappointed about paying for map updates.
