VIA 1505 Smooth Traveler
Date:February 2, 2013
Favorite features: Ease of Use, spoken street names
I purchased VIA 1505 at Walmart quickly while planning a trip to New England for Family History Research. This GPS has helped me expediate my travel especially through the city streets of our State Capitals, locating libraries, cemeteries and historic landmarks. It helps build confidence when short time to accomplish a lot of quick stops. Great for Project Managers and people who do not have all day to visit just one stop but make 10 stops. It has already paid for itself in 1 week, 2 weeks, and short weekends. It was a great move and I use it only on Family History Research trips.

I like my new TomTom very much. This is the third TomTom I have had. I do not like My TomTom as much as TomTom Home however. I liked the ability to get images off of the site. But, as far as the operation of the unit I like it for the quick operation, the improved user interface and of course the 5" screen. I had an issue with the map updates. I called the support desk. The problem was taken care of withing 5 or so minutes and the person on the phone was very polite and fast to help.

This GPS SUCKS
Date:December 6, 2012
I am very disappointed with Tom Tom. This thing just constantly says searching, so I went to the web and tried to upload a new map, HA good luck. I was lucky that I was within the 14 day period that walmart has to take them back. I went and got a Garmin. Had to pay a little more but at least it worked. I am sorry to say but yall suck Tom Tom.

DO NOT BUY.
Date:December 1, 2012
I have never regretted buying something as much as I regret buying this GPS. My main problem with it is the fact that is has major problems turning on. I bought one, used it for almost a month (it was 1 more day to a month). Went off right in the middle of my trip, and I had no idea where I was going. Needless to say, I was very frustrated. It didn't matter what I did (connect it to my computer, turn it on, plug it into my car) it wouldn't turn back on. I returned it back to the store, and they gave me just another one. I have used that about 2 or 3 times now, and it has also started to give me problems. I had to reset it back to factory settings. This thing cost $189.99 at the store without tax. I basically just threw my money away. If you haven't bought one, my advice is don't. Get a Garmin instead. My dad's had a Garmin for over 6 years now, and never had problems with it.

A Good Mid-Priced Unit!
Date:August 11, 2012
Favorite features: Ease of Use
I bought this TomTom Start 25 / VIA 1505 - 4GB in D.C. back in November of 2011, while traveling on business.....I had an existing TomTom, and for some reason, I kept getting the "No Valid GPS Signal" message, so I ran into a Target and bought another. At any rate, it turns out that there was something in the weather, #or our government!# as this new TomTom, as well as my old TomTom, and my Verizon Navigator #on my phone# could not pick up GPS Signals for about an hour that day.
To make a long story short, I have both Europe and U.S. loaded on this unit, #before it took two TomTom's and/or you had to get rid of one map to download the other# this unit stores both, and both work great! I rarely if ever have a problem with the "No GPS Signal" notice; and the couple of times that I did, I just re-booted and the signal came up in no time. Back in May, I bought another model TomTom for my girlfriend, which had the instant traffic updates, and the lifetime maps.....This model doesn't have that, which now, especially the traffic, I would like to have.
If I have one other "issue" it's that this model does not let you save previous addresses/locales, with "Name It Yourself" names, like my other TomTom's have had in the past. If it does, I've yet to figure out how to do it.

waiting for a valid GPS signal
Date:August 10, 2012
Bought a VIA 1505M in US (on my first visit to US) and it was OK the first day, but then it stoped working, just giving the 'waiting for a valid GPS signal' all the time. Vaited for more than 1/2 hour to get signal so we could get back to our hotel.... Next day same same 'waiting for a valid GPS signal', went back to mart were we bought it and met a nice guy who gave us a new unit same type #we could also chose if rather have e Garmin.....# anyhow the new unit had the same malfunction, so to have it work, we had to have it powered on for the rest of our trip 24/7... Now back in my home country, I've updated the unit both the software and map of my area, now is the question; WILL IT WORK??????

Dissappointed
Date:August 6, 2012
Favorite features: Ease of Use
This product worked GREAT for the first few times, it was easy to use and overall a great product. UNTIL suddenly the constant "waiting for gps signal" kept appearing and it went down hill from there. The gps signal is either really weak or it won't pick up until 10-30 minutes or not even at all. It is VERY frustrating and inconvenient when the gps is relied on yet it will NOT pick up the signal. I hope there is future updates for this.

Frustrated and Disappointed
Date:July 23, 2012
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance, spoken street names
I saw this item on sale 1505TM (November 2011) bought it for travel to my daughter's softball tournaments (spring-summer 2012). Other parents had them and loved them. I took it out of the box in May and only got it to work properly 2 times. The few times it worked it was awesome, the rest of the time it wouldn't start up and would say "Waiting for a valid GPS signal...". So after my first purchase of a GPS system, and still fumbling with paper directions I'm totally frustrated and disappointed with this product. I'm so glad the season is almost over! I would definitely NOT recommend this product.

TomTom VIA 1505 TM - device constantly freezes and/or fails to start up. I have reloaded/updated the software numerous times. The unit's new favorite past time is to display "Waiting for valid GPS signal" and never connects. I wrote this review during my downtime while updating the software, hoping to fix the problem...again.

"Waiting for a valid GPS signal"

My wife bought me the TomTom VIA 1505M for Father's Day this year. I am less than satisfied with the product. The device constantly says, "Waiting for a valid GPS signal" and does not work properly right out of the box. I would not recommend this device.

Does the job
Date:June 9, 2012
Favorite features: Advanced Lane Guidance, spoken street names
I have this 1505 model for 1 1/2 yrs. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes before you get a satellite kink up. It gets you where you want to go. A few times I took the "alternate route ...minutes faster" and sometimes it did get me there sooner than the known route but more a back road route with more traffic signals. The volume could be better. You have to drive with the windows closed sometimes to hear the sound. The red light camera service is pretty good and I haved hundreds of dollars knowing where cameras are. The money saved on fines has paid for the tomtom many times over. I like the night time map-it's very comfortable to see. My biggest complaint is the mounting system. It's rather awkward so I don't put the tomtom on the dashboard. Overall, it's okay. I suppose every brand has it's pros and cons but the tomtom does work for me.

I have had my TOM TOM for about a year and a half, don't leave home without it. never fails, warns me when a entersection has cameras, changes the speed with the speed limit signs, always, never misses. speed cameras are all over now and I get a warning. It has taken me every where I want to go, buy one and you will not be unhappy. Now I do not have to remember it will tell me every thing that I need to know while I pay attention to my driving.

Nice price, nice features - too bad about the maps
Date:April 23, 2012
Favorite features: Ease of Use, spoken street names
Just got my unit in. Appears nice, real nice features, easy to use and the screen design makes it easy to see. However, I live in a rural area that is not listed in the Via 1505 maps but it appears in other maps used by competitors. My subdivision is about 7 years old and it's rather middle sized wth about 200 homes, so it really should be there by now.
If you are purchasing for downtown traveling for roads that have been around for a while you should be fine, but if your travels include rural areas at all I might would express caution.

Excellent Value for a Comprehensive GPS
Date:April 11, 2012
Favorite features: IQ Routes™ Technology, Advanced Lane Guidance, Ease of Use, Voice command and control, spoken street names, Rich points of Interest
Purchased at Costco at Christmas time as a gift for Family members. I have used it on Business field trips and found it the 1505 Via TM terrific. In the NYC area, the Real Time Traffic feature has saved many minutes of time detecting traffic congestion on the route, offering the user a faster route possibilty to save you time and then recalculating the ETA based on 'real time" speed and traffic conditons. Lane Guidance is excellent, clearly depicting what lane to follow,on a clear HD quality screen. At times a little slow to respond but acceptable in all regards. The microphone feature for finding the nearest Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts , for example, is great, works well, even in Manhattan.

Easy to use and fatastic for the Novice
Date:April 1, 2012
Favorite features: Ease of Use, Voice command and control, display of up coming curves
Don't know what the other reviewers are talking about when they say it didn't work or was not accurate or "needs an antenna." This is my first GPS and right out of the box it took me across the state and ended right in front of the address I wanted. This could not be easier to use, nor more accurate just as it came from the store. Speed limits were displayed accurately. Street names and highway numbers were announced correctly. I was amazed to see the display actually show each up coming curve in the road. I'll never travel without it again.
